Cuts & Fades

A haircut here starts with a conversation and a look at how your hair actually grows, because a fade that ignores a cowlick or a double crown will never sit right no matter how clean the blend is. From there it is clippers and shears, worked in properly, with the neckline and around the ears finished by razor.

A skin fade takes the hair down to the skin at its lowest point and blends it up with no visible line between guards — done properly it should look like a gradient, not a set of steps. A zero fade takes it to bare skin with a hard line at the bottom, which is a sharper, more graphic look and takes a little longer to get right. If you are not sure which you want, tell us the look you are after and we will pick for you.

Fades grow out fast. A skin fade looks its best for about two weeks and starts to lose its shape by four, which is why we run a $30 maintenance tidy for anyone coming back inside four weeks of a full cut.

Beard & Shave

Beard trim finished with a hot towel
Cut-throat razor and shaving brush

A beard trim is not just a shorter beard. It is a shape — a cheek line set at the right height, a neckline set a finger or two above the Adam's apple rather than under the jaw, and length graded so the beard follows the shape of your face instead of hanging off it. That is the difference between a beard that looks grown and a beard that looks kept.

The hot towel cut-throat shave is the oldest thing on this menu and still the best thirty minutes in the shop. Hot towels soften the beard and open the pores, warm lather goes on with a badger brush, and the shave is done in two passes with a single-blade straight razor — with the grain first, then across it. A cold towel closes everything down and a balm finishes it. It is closer than any cartridge razor will get you, and it is worth doing once even if you never do it again.

Head shaves are on the same menu and the same principle. If you are shaving your head at home and getting irritation on the back of your neck, let someone else do it with a straight razor once and you will notice the difference.

Combinations

If you are getting the hair and the beard done in the same visit, book them together. It is cheaper than booking two separate services and, more importantly, it means the barber can balance the two against each other — the beard length set against the sides of the cut, the cheek line squared against the fade. Done separately, on separate days, they rarely line up.

Kids, Students & Seniors

Newcastle barbers are all over the place on children's pricing — cuts range from $20 to $55 across the city and the age cut-offs vary from under five to under thirteen, often without being stated anywhere. So here is ours, plainly: twelve and under is $35 for a cut and $40 for a skin fade. High school students in Years 7 to 12 are $35 with a student ID. Seniors and pensioners are $30 with a card.

First haircuts are genuinely welcome. If your child is nervous, book the first appointment of the day when the shop is quiet, and we will take the time it takes. Nobody here is going to rush a five-year-old.

The Father & Son at $70 is two full cuts booked back to back in the same slot, which is a little cheaper than booking them apart and a lot easier than making two trips.

Extras

Grey blending, sometimes called colour camo, takes the hard edge off grey without removing it — the aim is to knock it back so it reads as salt and pepper rather than a block of colour. It takes about forty-five minutes and washes out gradually over four to six weeks. Eyebrow tidies and nose and ear waxing are quick, they are $15, and almost nobody in Newcastle publishes a price for them.

Groomsmen & Wedding Parties

Not one barber shop in Newcastle publishes a wedding or groomsmen package, which is strange given how many weddings this city hosts. So we built one.

A groomsmen booking is a cut and a beard tidy for each man, booked as a single appointment so the whole party moves through together rather than trickling in. Four men is $200, six is $290, eight is $380. Add private shop hire for $150 and we close the doors to the public for your slot, with coffee on the house.

Book at least three weeks out for a Saturday, and bring the groom in for a trial cut two weeks before the day — a fade cut on the morning of a wedding is a fade at its sharpest, but a wedding morning is not the moment to try a new style for the first time.

The Star Card

Every sixth cut is free. It is a paper card, we stamp it, and there is no app, no account and no email list attached to it. Ask for one on your first visit.

On top of that, any full cut followed by a return visit inside four weeks is charged at the $30 maintenance rate instead of $45. A skin fade holds its shape for roughly a fortnight and starts to soften by week four, so this is the price for keeping it sharp rather than starting again.

Before You Book

Payment. Cash, card and Apple Pay. All prices include GST. No card surcharge, no weekend surcharge, no public holiday surcharge.

Bookings and cancellations. Please give us two hours' notice if you need to cancel or move a booking. Repeated no-shows may need a deposit for future bookings.

"From" prices. Where a price is marked "from", the final figure depends on hair length and thickness. Your barber will tell you before starting, not after.

Running late. Arrive more than ten minutes late and we may need to shorten the service or rebook you, out of fairness to the chair after yours.

Gift cards. Available in-shop in any amount, valid three years.

Book Your Chair

Open seven days. Thursday till 7pm. Walk-ins welcome when a chair is free.
